Jansen got his drivers license on April 26th.
Here are the rules for getting your driver's license in the state of Massachusetts:
- Take Drivers Ed (this is not an in school class, like it was for me when I was growing up).
- Take a written test (for the learners permit)
- Then 6 months after you have your learners you can go for your drivers license if you've done the rest of these things.
- Do 12 hours of driving at the driving school
- Do 6 observation hours
- Do 40 parent supervised hours
- Take a driving test. The Russians have the drivers ed business sewn up (just an interesting bit of trivia!)
Now that Jansen has his license, he is not allowed to drive any people outside of the family for 6 months. This means that he can take Janessa to seminary, but not the other seminary kids to high school.
- He took a DVD back to Hollywood video
- He took the library books back to the library.
- He got gas in the cars.
- He took Logan and J.B. and Soren to the pharmacy.
- He asked me if I had any errands that I wanted him to do (how DREAMY is that?)
- He got duplicate keys made for the house and each of the cars.
- He picked up groceries for me.
- He went to the post office.
- He picked up Soren from a playdate.
- He drove himself to and from work.
- He picked up Logan from Honor's Band.
- He took Janessa to the store.
- He took Janessa to another store.
- He took Janessa to yet another store.
- He picked up Janessa from ultimate practice every day.
- He went to the party store twice in 30 minutes for Janessa.
- I didn't have to be at the gym at 4:30 a.m. any more in order to get in a workout before I had to take J and J to seminary.
I didn't dream that my life would improve so much with this little change.
Jansen's vehicle:
Well, we actually had three cars in our possession, and we were planning to let Jansen drive one of them, but wouldn't you know it-- Two of them died just months before Jansen got his license. Since James works from home most of the time, Jansen takes James' car to seminary and high school most days.
James is thinking of going to a car auction and looking for a cheap car for Jansen that can get him back and forth to school.

The first driver's license is a great gift to Mom isn't it? I remember how much help you were when you got yours! And the nice thing is that Jansen is such a good driver and very careful.
