We took a break from our flood cleanup to accompany James in his performance at our Elementary School's Cultural Diversity Day on Saturday March 20. There was a wonderful line-up for the day including Chinese Lion Dancing, Irish Step Dancing, Hindi Singing, and Belly Dancing. James was slated to be the "wake-up" act, because he does so much whooping and hollering that he brings a lot of energy to the audience.
Jansen is not in this picture, because he was staying at a hotel in Boston with the All-State Choir.
Janessa helped to teach the hula and Logan blew the conch shell and helped to teach the haka.
James performed a little "tour" through the Polynesian Islands. He asked an audience member to come up so that he could teach him how to pronounce different Hawaiian words.
James had a bunch of little girls come up from the audience to dance the Hula as he played the ukulele.
James finished off with a Maori Haka. The stage was filled with little boys and our school principal. She was really connecting with her inner warrior until James said the phrase, "If you have a hairy chest, Show it, show it!" Then she blushed and turned away for a few moments.
When it was all over, James' voice was hoarse! He brought a fun aspect to our cultural diversity day.
Unfortunately, we had to leave right after James' act to get to Jansen's performance. We missed sampling all of the food from different countries. I brought Pani Popo or Tahitian Coconut Rolls.

What a treat for those school kids!
That is so awesome! I would have LOVED to see James perform. You guys never cease to amaze me!
I can't wait until we get to bring Ethiopia to Eliot! What a fun day.
