Clean up

Now that the water has stopped coming in, it's time to start demolition and cleanup.
The main part of the finished basement used wood paneling which was so popular circa 1950's. We had been looking for a good excuse to tear it all out.
The carpet was SOOO heavy when wet. James ended up cutting it into much smaller pieces so that he could roll it up, prop it up so all of the water could drain out, and finally carry it outside to the dumpster.
Notice that wall to the right of the staircase with the painting on it? Pretty soon that wall and the framing will be completely gone.
James started tearing out the ceiling tiles. They weren't actually affected by the flood. We'd been wanting to re-do the basement anyway, sometime in the future when we had money to do it. Since we're forced into re-doing the carpets and walls, we thought we might as well do the ceiling and lighting as well.
This view is from the entrance of James' office, looking out towards the fireplace in the basement. James has removed all of the walls, including the wall and door that sectioned the toy closet off from the rest of the basement. The stairs to the main floor are on the right.
More view of exposed walls.
James also sledgehammered the brick hearth in front of the fireplace.
President Hopkin, Ryan Baxter and Matt Durazzani came over one at a time and helped James carry out all of the heavy stuff, including the walls and the couches and the rest of the furniture.
The view from the fireplace.
As you can see, we have our work cut out for us! If I get really brave, I may post pictures of the rest of the house holding all of the contents of our basement. Not a pretty sight.
Perhaps James would have done some construction work today if he hadn't been sick in bed all day with stomach flu and fever. Actually he would have been in NYC today meeting with clients. Poor guy! As they say, "When it rains, it pours!"
