Kinect Injury...a cautionary tale

Once upon a time, sometime before Thanksgiving there was a man who was playing Kinect in his basement. When he went up to spike the virtual volleyball, he put his hand through the recessed lighting fixture and shattered the lightbulb. The lightbulb shards flew all over the basement, even embedding several in the t.v. screen (they are still melted into the t.v.) The man (who we'll call James) sliced his knuckle open pretty good. We debated about the hospital and stitches, but he finally resolved to wrap it tight and try to stop the bleeding. It eventually healed, although it caused him some pain.

What we didn't know was that two shards of lightbulb glass were embedded in his index finger, one in the tendon, and that when his finger healed, it healed over the top of these shards.

So, surgery was scheduled for December 21st.

And he came home looking like this.
James' hand surgeon is the official hand surgeon for the Bruins and the Red Sox.
The hand surgeon did draw a good amount on his hand and even signed his initials, just like an artist signing his artwork.

And now, he's mostly all better. The scar is a little bulky and he still lacks a bit of mobility in that finger, but hopefully his physical therapy on his finger will solve that.
So what is the moral of this story? "When you kinect, avoid connecting with physical objects."
And now for the ending of the story. The man lived happily ever after.
