Soon, you'll be seeing some posts about our academic curriculum in our McQuivey Summer School. This summer our school consists of Logan, J.B., Soren, and Lachlan. (Janessa and Jansen are working and busy doing other things!)
But for now, we'll focus on food:
Every Monday is cooking day in our school. So far, I've accepted requests from them about what they want to learn to make, and then we do it together.

So far we've made: Lion House Crescent Rolls (Soren's request). I really like my kids to learn bread-making techniques.

Lion House Challah bread (Soren's Request)

Creature Desserts (J.B. invented and assembled these by himself)

Peanut Butter Cookies
Last Monday I handed J.B. and Soren a recipe and let them make these cookies all by themselves. I went upstairs, and didn't even check back in on them. For a kid friendly recipe, click here. My amazing sister, Erin made this pictorial recipe so that even non-readers can cook. J.B. felt so empowered this week that he made the recipe again the next day, changing it a bit and also adding some m&ms. And then the next day he decided to tackle brownies by himself. I love that he is feeling more confident in the kitchen.

can I borrow him for a couple of days to come and make me a lot of yummy things to eat? Those peanut butter cookies look so good I think I might just make them for breakfast :)
This post has inspired summer cooking classes at our house as well. My girls are loving it!
